Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was described in August 2004 as the leader of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD). [1]

Chaudhry Nisar is Pakistan's former petroleum minister and a Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was released August 23, 2001, by the Pakistani government after a "detention of over 21 months." [2]

Although held in confinement for over 21 months, the government "failed to bring any case of corruption or abuse of power or any other irregularity" against him. "Chaudhry Nisar was among those close confidants of the former prime minister who had been picked up by the army soon after the military take-over" on October 12, 1999. [3]

He has served as Member National Assembly for the terms of 1985, 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1997."
