The Council for Energy Independence (CEI) was a coalition of energy and other companies with financial interests in producing synthetic fuel from coal in the U.S. which lobbied to defend lucrative tax concessions. Kenneth Kies, the managing director of the Federal Policy Group with Clark Consulting, represented the Council for Energy Independence.[1] (Clark Consulting is a leading lobbying group specializing in tax, trade, and health issues in Washington DC.)

Members

An extensive article on CEI's lobbying campaign in Time magazine described CEI's members as including "Headwaters, GE Capital, Pacific Gas & Electric and other utilities, investment firms and coal companies".[2]
