Gary Ralfe "is non-executive director of De Beers sa and De Beers Consolidated Mines.

"Gary Ralfe was educated at Michaelhouse School before going to Cambridge University. He joined Anglo American Corporation in 1966 and served the Corporation in South Africa, Australia and France. In 1974 he started working in what was known as the Diamond Section of the Chairman's Office at 44 Main Street, Johannesburg.

"Since then, with the exception of a brief interlude between 1983 and 1985 as secretary to the executive committee of the Anglo American Corporation, he has worked effectively for De Beers, including five years in Antwerp, the world's major diamond market. In January 1986 he transferred to the Central Selling Organisation (now the Diamond Trading Company) in London.

"He was appointed a director of De Beers in March 1990 and Managing Director of the Central Selling Organisation in January 1994. At the beginning of 1998 he became Managing Director of De Beers globally." [1]

"Gary Ralfe retired from active business life in 2006 after forty years of service firstly with Anglo American Corporation, and then with De Beers where he was Managing Director for eight years. In addition to the HSF he chairs the Board of Governors of Michaelhouse, the fund-raising arm of the Alexandra Education Committee, the fund- raising arm of Business Against Crime and the Beyond Foundation. " [2]
