In May 2000, President Clinton "announced his intent to nominate Harriet Zimmerman and Marc Leland to serve as members of the Board of Directors for the United States Institute of Peace.

From 1979 to 1985, she served as a member of the Board of Advisors of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Ms. Zimmerman received an A.B. and an M.A. from Boston University."
