"Jo was elected to the House of Commons in May 2005 in her home seat of East Dunbartonshire, with a majority of 4061 over Labour. Jo Swinson was brought up in Milngavie and later graduated from the LSE with a First Class Honours degree in Management.

"Currently a Foreign Affairs Spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, Jo has previously been a party spokesperson on Women & Equality, Scotland, and the Arts. She is also a member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee.

"With a keen interest in increasing women's representation, Jo chaired the Liberal Democrats' Campaign for Gender Balance from 2007 - 2009, and is a member of the Speaker's Conference looking at how to increase diversity within Parliament.

"A member of Amnesty International, Friends of the Earth and the New Economics Foundation, Jo's political interests include corporate social responsibility, climate change, quality of life and increasing participation in politics. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, and running." [1]
