Lord Stern "is IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government, at the London School of Economics, where he also heads the India Observatory within the LSE's Asia Research Centre, and will be Chairman of the new Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (announced in April 2008).

"He was adviser to the UK Government on the Economics of Climate Change and Development and Head of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change (2005-2997). He was also Head of the Government Economic Service, 2003-2007; Second Permanent Secretary to Her Majesty’s Treasury, 2003-2005; and, Director of Policy and Research for the Prime Minister’s Commission for Africa, 2004-2005. Previously, he was World Bank Chief Economist and Senior Vice President, Development Economics (2000-2003) and Chief Economist and Special Counsellor to the President at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (1994-1999). He was knighted for 'services to economics' in June 2004; his cross-bench non-party political peerage was announced in October 2007, and he was 'introduced' to the House of Lords in December 2007."
