Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC (MDP), "based in Chicago, is one of the most experienced and successful private equity investment firms in the United States." MDP invests in buyout and other private equity transactions, with the objective of investing in companies to achieve significant long-term appreciation in equity value. MDP focuses on several specific industry sectors, including energy and power. The firm was founded in 1992. [1]

In energy and power MDP invests in several areas, including coal production and gasification; electric generation and transmission; and energy & power services and technology. Their portfolio companies include Golden Oak Mining Company, L.P., which produces and markets steam coal, and USPowerGen, a New York energy provider.[2] Past and present portfolio companies also include wood producers Boise Cascade and Smurfit-Stone, the latter of which owns and operates the Jefferson Smurfit Fernandina Beach Power Plant.[3]
