Biography

Romayne was elected to Lewisham Council in 2006, as one of six Green Party UK "councillors, in what used to be a safe Labour seat. A former teacher, she is a political activist, artist and mother of three. Her top priorities are health, housing, education and crime.

"Romayne says, "We can all lead happier and safer lives by tackling inequalities in our communities and worldwide.

"The new constituency of Lewisham West and Penge throws a line around the landscape and geography of my childhood and my adult working life, and I would love to represent local people as their first Green MP.

"As a councillor, representing Brockley Ward, she has been a member of Healthier Communities Select Committee, Children and Young People's Select Committee, Lewisham Community Police Consultative Group, the Mayor's Commission on Sustainability and the Mayor's Commission on Libraries and Learning.

"Chair of the Women's Health Inequalities Review for Lewisham borough, launched in October 2009, she also played a key role in the efforts to successfully safeguard services at Lewisham Hospital.

"As a parent and an experienced teacher and classroom tutor she has been able to use her skills and understanding to deal with some very difficult issues; dealing with issues of fostering, school placements, special needs issues and health and housing concerns.

"Spokesperson for the Green Party Trade Union Group, a member of the National Steering Committee of the Anti Academies Alliance and a conference organiser with the Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union Group she also works to support the Campaign for State Education, Keep Our NHS Public, Defend Council Housing and the United Campaign.

"Romayne is Campaigns Officer for the London Green Party and a member of the National Campaigns Committee."[1]
