The Schizophrenia Fellowship of New South Wales describes itself as a "nonprofit, community based organisation" which is "committed to improving the circumstances and welfare of people living with schizophrenia, their relatives and carers, and professionals working in the area". [1]

The Fellowship's website says the organisation "commenced with a public meeting held at the Seymour Centre in 1985". [2]

The Fellowship receives funding from a number of sources including many pharmaceutical companies.

The "Quality of Life" section of their website is openly sponsored by Eli Lilly. [3]

Sponsors of "Schizophrenia Awareness Week 2006" are: [4]

  • NSW Department of Health
  • Wesley Health & Counselling Services
  • Janssen-Cilag (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson)
  • Pfizer
  • Mayne
  • AstraZeneca
  • Lundbeck
  • Eli Lilly

Most of these sponsors are also mentioned as past donors or supporters in the 2004/5 annual report [5].

During "Schizophrenia Awareness Week 2006" (14th - 20th May) SFNSW aired TV commercials inviting viewers to "sniff the screen". The commercial stated that "people who smell odours that aren't there could have an early symptom of schizophrenia if you are worried see your doctor or contact the schizophreniza fellowship".
