Stephen Jay Gould (September 10, 1941 – May 20, 2002) was a prominent American paleontologist, evolutionary biologist, and historian of science. wiki

"He has served as president of the American Society of Naturalists, the Paleontological Society, and the Society for the Study of Evolution, and in 1998 became president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the nation's largest scientific organization." [1]

He was a leading critic of E. O. Wilson's concept of sociobiology.
