Beginning in early 2005, several organizations geared up to create conditions that would encourage a hardening of US policy towards Iran with the policy consequences ranging from placing crippling sanctions against its economy all the way to conducting an attack on Iran's nuclear industry. (NB: military analysts indicate that an attack on the nuclear sites could well involve a major conflagration.) No matter how flimsy the evidence, if it would prove useful to smear Iran, it was enough to be pushed.

Incidents exploited for propaganda purposes

  1. "Iranian agent" seeking to hire Mexican cartel assassins to target Saudi ambassador
  2. US Court hearing featuring serial fabricators, and on the basis of this the Judge declaring that Iran was responsible for 9-11

Policy actions due to Israel lobby pressure

  • Sanctions against Iran
  • Blocking sales of Iranian oil to third parties
  • Blocking the sale of key industrial components to Iran (e.g., airplane parts, chemicals for oil refineries, medical-use radioactive materials)
  • Blocking of financial transactions, and blockade of the Iranian central bank
  • Freezing of international bank accounts of key Iranian personnel
  • Prohibition on US diplomatic contact with Iran
